Our vision is to create a world that is safe for all children. Thus, we train and equip those who answered the call to go serve and protect the most vulnerable, providing them with tools and the knowledge of the heart of God for children.
The purpose of the Children At Risk School (CAR) is to train workers in initiating and maintaining projects and serving existing projects in working with children at risk, their families, and communities. The school covers a broad variety of topics, such as God’s heart for children, compassion, child development, child evangelism, community development, project planning, human trafficking, and cyberbullying. These topics are covered by professionals working in the field of children at risk throughout South Africa. The students also receive valuable insight during site visits where they learned about different models of care. By the end of the course, students have also completed a detailed ministry project plan, to help them further their ministry goals in a practical way.
The CAR school is hosted at our YWAM Muizenberg Campus. The school consists of lectures, local outreaches, and times of worship -among many other things. The school itself is three months, but there is an optional internship, which can be done during the next five years after completing the school. To find out more about the internship, please reach out to us via the contact information provided.

“My name is Lunathi Joubert. I am from a small town in the Eastern Cape, South Africa called Engcobo. I came to YWAM Muizenberg in April 2014 to do my DTS. In 2015 joined staff and have been on staff since then. I have a huge passion for children, young adults and families. I did Children At Risk School (CAR) in 2016 and been involved with the CAR School since.
Children At Risk is personal for me because I grew up as a child at risk myself, I was not privileged to have caregivers who were trained to raise me as a kid. I believe everybody, and all societies need to be trained to raise children in a healthy way. No matter where you are from, you have to know the value of a child because children are the most vulnerable in societies.
For me I believe that if I am able to train a group of people from different places, it makes it more effective because it makes them able to go back to other places of the world to rescue children. It is a privilege and I believe it is making a bigger difference in the world than just me going out to start an organization by myself. Training individuals and creating a team to go into different places is definitely more effective.”
