What is a School of Biblical Studies like?
The School of Biblical Studies is a nine-month course in which you get to see the bigger picture of God’s Word, understanding the overview of the whole Bible, and how it is one story. You will study the Bible inductively assisted by teachings on historical background and context, and reading all 66 books of the Bible 5 times. By the end of the course you will have a more biblically grounded world view and a better personal
SBS Expectations
A nine-month course focused on studying all 66 books of the Bible through the Inductive Method. Attempting to set aside preconceived ideas the inductive method begins with observation (what does the text say), then interprets the text through the eyes of the original reader, and finally applying timeless truths to your own life. Through this approach we hope to let the living Word of God speak for itself.
The course will equip you to study God’s Word for yourself, while challenging you to take what you have learned and give it to others. The SBS is an overview of the Bible which enables you to understand the “big picture”, laying a solid foundation for your life and ministry. We trust that the SBS here in Muizenberg will be a place where the Spirit of God comes and transforms your life, brings healing, renewal, greater understanding of the character & nature of God, His Word, and His purposes. It is our hope that through your time with the SBS, there will stir up within you a new vision and passion for reaching the nations, with the true Gospel of God. After the completion of the nine months you have the option of doing an outreach through The Titus Project. This is a twelve-week program which includes three weeks training in teaching and preaching, further instruction on the Inductive Method, as well as presentation and public speaking skills. The focus of this outreach is Cape Town and other areas in Africa which struggle to get good Bible teaching. The outreach is a fantastic opportunity to pass on some of what you have gained during your SBS. The ministries which you will serve in this time are long term and ongoing, and you will help empower them to use the same tools you have learnt, so they can use them in studying the Bible and furthering their own ministries. This will also give you the opportunity to return as full-time staff in both the classroom and in the field.
For those interested in this program, please note you will need to apply for a special extended visa in your home country before coming. Please be aware that this can take some time as it requires a background check and often an in-person visit to the nearest South African embassy.
