Outreach in Cape town

See how God is working in Cape Town with a team of your own!

an invitation from our team to yours

Our department was initiated with the vision of linking outreach teams with local ministries as a part of establishing God's Kingdom. This partnership nourishes local communities so that they may flourish to the best of their ability, achieve their own long-term goals and ensure that their ministries are sustainable. We have been expanding and refining the outreach teams department since 2014.

Our vision

As a branch of YWAM Muizenberg, our heart is to partner local ministries with Outreach Teams. This supports, encourages and strengthens the communities of Cape Town, South Africa. We are committed to preaching the good news of Jesus Christ and creating a platform for the nations to serve the people of South Africa. Our aim is to create ministry opportunities for YWAM Outreach Teams and other Christian organizations and to see these teams have a God-filled experience that stretches and grows their perspective of what it means to journey through life with Christ. We are a bridge that enables international students to serve and strengthen the local body of Christ and in turn, these students will gain a wider perspective and insight into how God is actively working throughout the globe.

Hosting Teams

We will connect you to a man or woman of peace who will be your personal guide in ministry. Your host will be a blessing to you and your team. Their job is to provide connections to ministry, inside information about the location and people, assist you with housing, food and accommodation, provide translation, and bring encouragement and friendship to your team. They will act as a resource which greatly facilitates your time out here. We pray that there would be a mutually beneficial relationship built during your time with them, where the KINGDOM of God can advance through unity and honour.

Who do We Host?

Different Ministries and specific ministry opportunities

We do youth ministry in local communities and townships around Muizenberg. We work among multiple different cultures and ethnicities, with youth aged 13-18. The reality for most of these teenagers is that they live in highly volatile or tense environments due to a high rate of illness, violence and death within these communities. Therefore, the purpose of this minstry is to create a space for young people to experience healthy human contact and gain an understanding of relational boundaries. They take part in educational skill building exercises and outdoor excursions. During these excursions, the youth from these disadvantaged areas are taught life skills through basic life coaching that they can apply in the daily life-threatening and highly stressful situations they are faced with.

This is an evangelism focused ministry. Cape Town trains transport masses of people from local communities to the urban city centre daily. We make use of the train system as a platform to bless commuters with the freedom to partake in worship and praise. During this time, there are opportunities for the team members to pray and give testimonies with the aim of sharing about the love of Jesus. We have seen the Holy Spirit move and touch many lives through this act. We are so blessed to be able to share with you the story of a previous team member’s faith to step out and share about Jesus with another. As a result of that bold step, a young man was touched by the Holy Spirit and he gave his live to Christ. He completed his Discipleship Training School with YWAM 6 months later. We believe that God always sets appointments with individuals during train ministry and we know that He moves in the hearts of His people in ways which we are not always blessed to see.

A major aspect of our heartbeat as an Outreach Department is Children’s Ministry. Our purpose in partnering is to come alongside local ministries that are involved in the community and focus on Early Childhood Development. This focus covers toddlers and pre-school ages. In this ministry, the leaders give children an opportunity to engage in a variety of educational and social activities such as reading, writing, crafts, drawings etc. This creates a healthy space for them to thrive developmentally. Your team would have opportunities to encourage and work alongside these hardworking local ministry leaders while also creating activities based on the holistic Gospel for the children. Some of the greatest fruit this bares are the acts of showing the nurturing heart of God and speaking value and worth into the children and the hands that provide for them long-term. This is a deep desire we have as a department because we believe that God will continue to restore communities through the thriving of our children.

Cape Town is a laidback and friendly city where people have time to stop and talk. South Africa is categorized as a generally warm culture where people love to share and they value relationships. They are open to meet new people and hear what they have to say. Whether it is on public transport, through an open air event or being welcomed into someone’s home, people are constantly looking for hope and encouragement. This makes evangelism an exciting new prospect. So if you come with hearts open and ready to listen, you too will hear new stories, learn about individuals’ experiences and even get to taste different, exciting foods!

Biblical poverty is a global epidemic. It is the lack of knowledge of God due to little or no resources, misinterpreted scripture and no accountability. It is unfortunately common throughout South Africa and leads to a mixing of ritual practices and work-based ideas of God. But the truth we know is that of God’s grace which enables our relationship with Him. Therefore, it is important to take God’s word into the communities through Bible studies. Depending on the season, we sometimes offer opportunities for teams to help facilitate Bible studies in different townships. Our main purpose of Bible study sessions is to disciple believers by reading and discussing scriptures together. This brings growth in the understanding of God’s character which is in line with our hope and vision of eradicating Biblical poverty. As part of this hope, we also desire to to see all households of the community having access to a Bible. By studying together, we are taking a stand against Biblical poverty and we are a part of God’s plan of restoring relationship with Him.
