  • “Leave my son alone” were the last words my mother told me before I left

“Leave my son alone” were the last words my mother told me before I left home wanting to give my half-brother a goodbye hug. For the first eleven years of my life, my father raised me before he decided to shoot himself in the head. Because of my harsh upbringing, I thought life with my father could not get any worse. I was proven wrong when I moved into my mother’s home. She was heavily abusive to me mentally, physically and emotionally. One thing good about moving into her home was getting to know Jesus through my older brother. I gave my life to God when I was 12 but I fell deep into various vices later in my teens. I tried to kill myself several times, but I didn’t succeed. I decided to leave my mother’s home but I kept returning back and getting kicked out again a couple of times. Finally, I decided to leave for good but what my mother said before I left tore me apart inside. Then, by the grace of God, I was brought into a new family that showed me the godly parental figures that I lacked my entire life. Up till today, they restored my view of who God is as a Father, and God further healed me during ‘Father Heart of God’ week in my DTS. I believe God has called me into a ministry to be a father to the fatherless, to be a refuge to those who were born into circumstances similar to mine and to show them how much God the Father loves them. I just want to say that, no matter how dark the road may be, God is with you regardless what you believe about Him. Just hold on to that truth, and one day you will look back and realise that that truth was a reality.” // Uhlrich, Namibië
