Whether we realise it or not, we all have stories that we are living into: our individual stories; the story of our families; the story of our nations.
Consciously or unconsciously these stories shape and form us.
The Church Calendar reminds us throughout the year that we are a part of a much larger and ancient story. God’s story.
As we engage with God’s story, we are invited to wait expectantly in Advent, endure the wilderness of Lent, feel the pain of Good Friday, rejoice in the joy of Easter Sunday.
Today in the Calendar we celebrate Ascension Day. The day that Jesus ascended into heaven, to be seated at the right hand of the Father. Before ascending he promised to prepare a place for his followers and to send them the Holy Spirit.
Ascension Day remembers both the joy of his promises and the tension the disciples felt waiting for the promised Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
We invite you to celebrate with Christians around the world today, engaging in the story of God that you are a part of.
Ideas for how you can celebrate Ascension Day:
* Gather your friends and feast like our brothers and sisters from the early church, discuss God’s story.
* Read the Ascension in scripture: Acts 1:6-11
* Consider how the disciples may have felt after Jesus’ crucifixion & resurrection, to witness the ascension (try journaling from the perspective of a disciple).

Ascension Day Prayer:
God our Father,
make us joyful in the ascension of your Son Jesus Christ.
May we follow him into the new creation,
for his ascension is our glory and our hope.
