Experiencing the Word,
School of Biblical Studies

School of Bibilical Studies - YWAM SBS

8th April 2019 – March 2020 / Muizenberg, South Africa

Jesus, the Word made flesh, invites us to enter into fellowship with the Father, the Son, & the Holy Spirit, and with His body, to enjoy Him and participate with Him in the expansion of His Kingdom in this world.

The heartbeat of this 18 month extended Experiencing The Word combined DTS/SBS journey (6-month DTS and 12-month SBS) is that each person would come to experience the life of Christ and his empowering presence made available to us every moment of every day and have the opportunity to see this become an integral part of the rest of our lives. This will be our second time running it, the first one has been so transformational that we knew we had to run it again. We want to grow in living & loving like Jesus, the Word made flesh.

2018 sbs

The Experiencing The Word SBS is slightly different from an ordinary School of Biblical Studies. The staff leaders of the September 2018 Classic DTS as well as many of the students in that school will continue on to do this SBS, however we welcome new students! This ETW is also an extended, 12 month SBS as opposed to an ordinary 9-month SBS. In most ways it is a standard SBS experience, but in order to facilitate the processing and the pace desired, we have extended the SBS by an additional few months to create the opportunity for an included 4 week outreach as well as more processing time and the freedom to incorporate other non-traditional SBS content.

For those interested in this program, you would need to apply for a special extended visa in your home country before coming. Please be aware that this can take some time as it requires a background check and often an in-person visit to the nearest South African embassy.

If you have any questions about the SBS , check out the frequently asked questions page or send us a question below. If you don’t know what to pack, check out our packing list.

Meet The School Leaders!

Hans Oines, James Lunn and Rachel Froneman

James Lunn did his DTS in Perth, Australia in January of 1998. He has been with YWAM for over twenty years. Hans Oines did his DTS in Lausanne, Switzerland in 1998. He did his second DTS with his wife, Susan, in 2007. These two have worked closely together for the last nine years and have led many schools including SBS’s and DTS’s. Both have spent much of that time focusing on biblical training, teaching, and discipleship. Rachel Froneman did her DTS in Kona, Hawaii in April 2012. She has been with YWAM for six years and has been working with James and Hans for two years. Their desire is to disciple people to live and love more like Jesus.
